Russia earns $1 billion annually from the supply of enriched uranium to the United States and is the No. 1 foreign seller.
The US Senate has voted in favor of a bill banning the import of enriched uranium from Russia. Now President Joe Biden must sign it, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, May 1.
The document, unanimously supported by senators, bans the import of enriched uranium from the Russian Federation 90 days after the law goes into effect, with the possibility of temporary exceptions until January 2028.
“According to the United States Department of Energy, Russia has supplied almost a quarter of the enriched uranium used to fuel more than 90 commercial reactors, making it No could be a problem and risks raising the value of enriched uranium by about 20%,” the report said.
At the same time, the US Congress has previously provided for the allocation of $2.7 billion for the development of the American uranium industry, on the condition that restrictions are introduced on the import of raw materials from Russia. The House of Representatives approved the bill in December.
The previous day, the media reported that the United States was discussing the possibility of banning the import of uranium from Russia through administrative procedures, as the relevant legislation was stalled in the Senate.
