From September 2022 to April 2024, from 6 to 8 thousand Crimean Tatars left Crimea to avoid the mobilization of the Russian army. The head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, Refat Chubarov, said this in an interview Voice of America.
“They turned Crimea into a strong training ground, a base. In general, as reported by Chubarov, since the beginning of the occupation of Crimea, 50 thousand Crimean Tatars left the peninsula – this is 15% of the total number of representatives of this people who lived on the peninsula until February 2014.
Chubarov added that after ten years of occupation, Russia drafted 35 thousand residents of Crimea into its army.
“When the whole invasion began, and as soon as the mobilization of Russia began, in some Crimean villages up to 70% of the calls were brought to the Crimean Tatars. This is with a purpose,” added the head of the Mejlis.
