Russia needs a tactical pause to focus forces for an offensive, Western analysts say.
The Russian invaders slowed their advance and were preparing reserves for an attempted offensive in the direction of Toretsk. This is stated in a report by analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts noted that on April 30, in the Avdeevka area, Russian troops did not conduct any confirmed offensive for the first time in several days. In the direction of Bakhmut-Chasov Yar, Russian troops carried out more attacks than near Avdeevka.
Analysts say the one-day report is not enough to establish a pattern, but it could indicate that Russian troops are somewhat slowing the pace of the attack around Avdievka while continuing offensive operations in the vicinity. of Chasovoy Yar.
Russian forces have been focused on building tactical gains near Ocheretino (northwest of Avdeevka) and Novokalinovoye (north of Avdeevka) since April 20, but the pace of confirmed advances appears to have slowed on April 30 , ISW added.
The Institute for the Study of War suggests that the invaders may decide to advance from their advance north of Avdiivka in the direction of Toretsk to complement the Russian offensive operations near Chasovoy Yar. For this, Russia needs a tactical stop to concentrate forces for the offensive.
Chasov Yar is an important operational facility as it will be a staging area for Russian troops to launch offensive operations in Druzhkovka and Konstantinovka, which serve as strongholds for Donetsk’s four main cities. However, Russian troops will likely need a longer pause to reinforce existing units and redeploy additional forces to Ocheretino if they decide to advance north into the Toretsky region, ISW said.
Previously, ISW wrote that the invaders will try to advance in the direction of Avdiivka, because this place provides more opportunities for faster achievement of tactical victories.
