The government has submitted to the Rada a bill aimed at simplifying the international search for suspects and access to their assets abroad.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced a bill in the Verkhovna Rada that would simplify the international search for suspects and access to their assets and documents abroad. This is proved by the explanatory note.
The bill aims to improve the mechanisms of international cooperation in criminal matters. It makes the following changes to the Criminal Procedure Code:
-
proposed to introduce the term “international search”, which affects the effectiveness of international cooperation for the purpose of extraditing suspects;
-
they propose to simplify the search for suspects: if they do not appear when called by the investigator or prosecutor, and there is reason to believe that they are in a foreign country or in temporarily occupied territories, such a suspect will be placed on the list of international looking for;
-
it is proposed to introduce the possibility of using arrest for the actual transfer to a foreign state at the extradition request of a person for whom the extradition arrest period has expired;
-
the investigating judge can make a temporary decision on access to the assets and documents of suspects located in the territory of a foreign state.
The initiator of the bill was the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal. The draft law was submitted to the Committee for consideration.
We remind you that the Security Service of Ukraine has put on the wanted list the former leader of the Communist Party banned in Ukraine, Petro Symonenko. The SBU reported that during the occupation of the Kyiv region, he appealed to the highest military-political leadership of Russia about his “evacuation.”
