The NBU introduced a new coin with a denomination of 5 UAH. dedicated to the 38th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The NBU reported this on Sunday, April 28, on Facebook.
There they noted: the coin is called “Chernobyl Revival.”
“The black stork is a rare bird that has become one of the unique symbols of revival in the Chernobyl zone. Its population in the Chernobyl reserve indicates the restoration of the region’s ecosystem and the reserve is becoming a biodiversity hotbed even in the conditions of radiation pollution,” – said the message.
It is indicated that the coin is made of nickel silver (an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc) with a circulation of 40 thousand pieces – including 20 thousand pieces in souvenir packaging.
The obverse side of the coin depicts the “symbolic wheel of life, signifying the rebirth of nature.” As explained by the authors of the coin design, it represents an internationally described “Radiation Threat” sign, covered with leaves, where there are animals whose population is developing at 30- kilometer exclusion zone:
