Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) suggest that the occupiers will have tactical advantages at the front in the coming weeks as Ukraine awaits the arrival of Western weapons. However, the enemy is unlikely to be able to completely defeat the defense of the Ukrainian army.
According to analysts, the arrival of American aid to the front in the coming weeks will allow Ukrainian troops to solve their current problems. The Russian Army will intensify efforts to destabilize the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and will try to gain a foothold in new positions at this time.
Western officials believe the Russians may make further “tactical gains” in the coming weeks, but not fully “occupy” Ukraine.
“Russian forces are capable of achieving significant tactical gains in the Avdeevka area and the important operational objective of capturing the city of Chasov Yar. However, neither of these efforts is likely to develop into a significant operational breakthrough in the near term, let alone lead the collapse of the defensive line Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Donetsk region,” ISW analysts concluded in their report.
Earlier, President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russia aims to capture Chasov Yar in the Donetsk region by May 9. If Ukrainian troops remain, then Russia’s plans to launch a counteroffensive in June lose.
