At the moment there is no certainty about the date of Putin’s trip to Turkey. Erdogan’s office said preparations are underway.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan plans to make an official visit to the United States in early May instead of meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, who was due in Ankara. The Turkish newspaper Hürriyet writes about it.
It can be noted that negotiations continue between the White House and the Turkish Embassy in the United States on who will participate in the meeting and how long the leaders of the two countries will meet face to face.
Initially, Erdogan expected Putin to arrive in Turkey on February 12. The visit was supposed to be the first trip by the Russian president to a NATO country since the war in Ukraine began, but it was postponed to a later date. Formally, because of the presidential elections in Russia.
Later, RosZMi wrote that Putin’s visit, planned for February, was temporarily postponed to the end of April – beginning of May. At the end of March, municipal elections were held in Turkey.
However, at the end of April there was no certainty about the date of Putin’s trip to Turkey. Erdogan’s office assured that, despite this, preparations for this are underway.
According to media reports, Turkey intends to invite the Russian Federation to start peace negotiations with Ukraine. At the same time, Ankara will not impose its ideas on resolving the conflict on any of the parties, but will determine the “necessary mediation.”
Let’s recall that Erdogan previously said that he intends to discuss with Putin a new mechanism for exporting Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
