Alexander Lukashenko criticized NATO countries for modernizing tactical nuclear weapons. According to his calculations, there are now about 200 nuclear weapons in Europe.
Belarus appears to host “several dozen” Russian nuclear weapons. The formal leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said this on Thursday, April 25.
“Several dozen of the most modern nuclear weapons,” he told the All-Belarusian People’s Assembly in Minsk.
Lukashenko called it important to place tactical weapons on the territory of Belarus.
“Strategic weapons may not need to be returned here but tactical weapons are out of the question – they must be on the territory of Belarus,” he said.
Lukashenko also criticized NATO countries for modernizing tactical nuclear weapons. According to his calculations, there are now about 200 nuclear weapons – missiles and bombs – deployed at air bases in Europe: at Kleine Brogel airbase (Belgium) – 20, Büchel (Germany) – 20, Aviano ( Italy) – 60, Gedi (Italy) – 30, Incirlik (Turkey) – 50, Volkel (Netherlands) – 20 units.
“We count them to one,” assured Alexander Lukashenko.
Let’s recall that in March Vladimir Putin said that he agreed with Lukashenko on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. At the same time, the head of the Kremlin spoke about the transfer to the Belarusian military of the Iskander missile system, capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
Later, Lukashenko said that Russian nuclear weapons were already on the territory of Belarus.
