The former American president believes that the Speaker of Congress is “a very good person” because he supported him on several issues.
Former US President Donald Trump publicly supported Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson after voting for the Ukraine aid package. He said this on the John Fredericks Radio program, The Guardian reports.
The publication said Trump praised Speaker Johnson for bringing the $61 billion Ukraine aid bill to a House vote despite opposition from some lawmakers.
According to Trump, Republicans now have only one vote advantage in the House of Representatives, so this does not mean that Johnson can “go and do whatever he wants.”
“I think he is a very good person. You know, he supported me very strongly on the NATO issue when I said that NATO should pay… I think he is a very good person. I think he is trying very hard. And again “Well, we have to have a big election,” Trump said.
He also praised Johnson for making $9 billion in aid to Ukraine a “loan forgiveness.”
Let’s remember that Speaker Johnson, after many months of hesitation, submitted to Congress a bill on aid to allies, including Ukraine, and on April 20 it was passed.
After that, far-right Republicans demanded Johnson’s resignation as speaker.
