Following the meeting, the allies agreed to strengthen Ukraine not only with air defense systems, but also with ammunition and UAVs.
NATO allies have agreed to help Ukraine strengthen its air defenses. Delivery announcements should be expected soon. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this at a press conference following the results of the Ukraine-NATO Council.
“NATO Defense Ministers have agreed to provide and strengthen additional military support, especially in air defense. NATO has compiled a list of available capabilities across the Alliance, and found systems that can be provided to Ukraine. Therefore, in the near future, I expect new statements on the capabilities that can be provided in the field of air defense for Ukraine,” said Stoltenberg.
The Secretary General welcomed Germany’s decision to transfer an additional Patriot air defense system to Ukraine and added that the allies may also transfer the SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system.
“Many allies that do not have systems available for transfer have offered to provide financial support to get them for Ukraine. We are also working with industry to increase production and repair systems to deliver quickly them into service and prepare them for further use.” – emphasized the Secretary General.
NATO defense ministers also discussed Ukraine’s other needs, including 155mm rounds, long-range capabilities and drones.
“Each NATO ally will decide for itself what certain allies will give during the meeting and are now finalizing their contribution, which … will be announced shortly,” Stoltenberg concluded.
As you know, Vladimir Zelensky announced that he initiated the meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. The meeting will discuss the issue of protecting the airspace from Russian strikes and air defense supplies.
Subsequently, it became known that a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council will take place next Friday, April 19.
