A Polish citizen who collaborated with Russian military intelligence was detained. According to the investigation, the defendant’s plan was to collect and transfer information about the security of the Rzeszow-Jasionka airport to the aggressor country. This is not enough, among other things, to help the Russian intelligence services plan a possible assassination attempt on President Zelensky during his stay in Poland.
SBU officers and Ukrainian prosecutors informed their Polish colleagues about the possible assassination attempt and provided them with key evidence in this case. This happened within the framework of international legal assistance.
Thanks to successful actions and prompt exchange of information between countries, a recruited Russian intelligence agent was identified and detained on Polish territory.
The Polish prosecutor’s office charged him with readiness to act in favor of a foreign intelligence service, qualified under Art. 130 §3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Poland.
On April 18, 2024, at the request of the Polish prosecutor’s office, the Warsaw District Court applied a preventive measure in the form of detention against the attacker. The investigation is being conducted by the Internal Security Agency under the supervision of the National Prosecutor’s Office of Poland. Investigative actions are ongoing.
