The mayor and a former city council member requested $100,000 to grant a citizen the lease of a 2.5-hectare communal property plot.
The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) announced a sentence for the head of the city of Reni, Odessa region, Igor Plekhov, and the former deputy of the local city council, Ivan Poydolov – 9 and 10 years in prison with confiscation of property. The court announced this yesterday.
It is indicated that the HACS found the official and the former deputy guilty of a criminal offense under the article on accepting a bribe on a particularly large scale (Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). They were sentenced to imprisonment for 9 and 10 years with the deprivation of the right to hold positions in local governments and state authorities for three years, including the confiscation of all property.
According to the investigation, the officials demanded $100 thousand for renting a plot of communal property with an area of 2.5 hectares to a citizen. They were caught red-handed during the transfer of the $50 thousand tranche.
According to media reports, Igor Poidolov fled to Moldova in 2023 and illegally crossed the border outside the crossing. He was placed on the international wanted list. VAKS recovered 1.87 million hryvnias from the budget for the bail paid for Poidolov.
Earlier it became known that law enforcement officers eliminated corruption schemes in the customs offices of Kyiv, Rivne and Odessa regions.
