The European Investment Bank is convinced that Europe “should play the biggest role” in the process of rebuilding Ukraine after the war.
It could take up to a trillion euros ($ 1.1 trillion) to rebuild Ukraine after Russia’s invasion. This was stated by the head of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Werner Hoyer, reports on Tuesday, June 21, Bloomberg.
“I called a trillion because I saw numbers in public space that I considered completely unrealistic when I look at the level of destruction in Ukraine,” Hoyer said at a briefing in Frankfurt.
According to him, Europe “should play the biggest role.”
The publication states that this figure will also appear when EU leaders meet June 23-24 in Brussels to discuss Ukraine’s reconstruction plan and its bid for bloc membership.
Werner Hoyer added that the EIB aims to redistribute responsibilities in the amount of 1-1.5 billion euros to bring back Ukraine. According to him, he can get permission for it as early as this week.
Recall that in early July, a conference in Ukraine was held in Lugano, Switzerland, where Kyiv will present a plan for the restoration of the country.
