The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant transferred all reactors to a “cold shutdown”.

    .

As of April 13, all six reactor units of Zaporizhia NPP are in cold shutdown mode. This happened for the first time since the end of 2022, after the fourth unit reached this operating state this morning. This was stated by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

The decision to cold shut down all six units is positive in itself, since cooling the reactor provides an additional buffer in case of an accident. But this does not solve the fundamental problem of the recent sharp deterioration of the situation at the station, he noted.

The IAEA Director General emphasized that nuclear safety and security at the Zaporozhye NPP remain very unstable.

As is known, Ukrainian employees no longer have access to Zaporizhia NPP. According to the IAEA, now only employees with Russian citizenship and who have signed contracts with the Russian operator are allowed to work at the Zaporozhye NPP.

Let us remind you that the occupiers installed explosive devices between the internal and external fences around the Zaporizhia NPP. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the presence of mines is incompatible with safety standards.

Representatives of the aggressor country stubbornly assert that the installation of mines at the Zaporizhia NPP is “an acceptable practice that does not contradict any IAEA recommendations.”
