On the territory of the settlement there is a 590 separate radio engineering center, armed with the Container over-the-horizon detection radar.
As Militarny writes, the radar is located at two sites, one of which is located in Kovilkino, and the other in Gorodok. The 29B6 “Container” two-dimensional over-the-horizon radar is part of the reconnaissance and warning system for aerospace attacks.
The Russians built the first sample of the Container radar in the city of Kovilkino in Mordovia in 2000-2002. The receiving part and the main equipment part of the radar are located in the populated area (site No. 2).
The other part of the station with radiating antennas is located at site No. 1 near Gorodets.
On December 2, 2013, the first sample of the “Container” radar as part of the 590th separate radio engineering unit began experimental combat duty, which continues to this day.
