The intelligence service documented subversive activities on the part of the deputy chairman of the synodal department for external church relations of the UOC-MP. The cleric justified the Russian war against Ukraine and incited religious hatred. After the outbreak of war, he publicly called for cooperation with the infidels in order to jointly “pray for the health and well-being” of the invaders. The press center of the Security Service of Ukraine reported this on April 12 in Telegram.
He posted such calls on his own telegram channel, which he repeatedly used to spread pro-Kremlin narratives. It turned out that the archpriest oversaw an extensive network of dioceses of the UOC-MP abroad. These institutions, under the guise of allegedly spiritual guardianship over Ukrainian immigrants, disseminate Russian propaganda narratives.
Special examinations confirmed that he carried out informational subversive activities against Ukraine. The cleric was informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 161 (violation of the equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, regional affiliation, religious beliefs and other grounds) and Part 2 of Art. 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants) UCU.
The offender faces up to five years in prison with confiscation of property.
The intelligence agency’s report did not indicate the name of the suspect. However, the publication “Ukrainian Pravda” and a number of other media write that we are talking about Nikolai Danilevich, whose house was searched on April 12.
Let us remember that Danilevich is the deputy chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the UOC MP. He was part of the delegation that in 2017, together with ex-People’s Deputy Vadim Novinsky, persuaded Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew not to give the tomos to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
