The Ukrainian government has requested the purchase of equipment and services related to support of the HAWK Phase III missile system, including design and integration for communications and interoperability, refurbishment and overhaul of the HAWK surface-to-air missile system firing pod systems. This was reported by the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
The Ukrainian side also wants to purchase components for re-certification, tool kits, test and auxiliary equipment, technical documentation, spare parts and personnel training, along with other elements of logistics and software support.
The Secretary of State has determined and provided detailed justification that there is an emergency that requires the immediate sale to the Government of Ukraine of the above defense items and services for the benefit of U.S. national security, the statement said.
It is noted that Washington is aware that Kyiv needs to increase its potential to protect against Russian missile attacks and the air capabilities of Russian forces.
As you know, HAWK is a medium-range anti-aircraft missile system that provides air defense, which is one of the main security needs of Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
Let us remember that the other day President Vladimir Zelensky said that only political will is needed for air defense systems to be transferred to Ukraine. He noted that now the “petriots” belong precisely in Ukraine, so that later they will not have to be used at least along the entire eastern flank of NATO.
