In his opinion, it is supposedly more profitable for Ukraine to attack other targets.
These strikes (on Russian refineries – Rakurs) may have consequences for the global energy situation. It is more profitable for Ukraine to attack tactical and operational targets that can have a direct impact on the current fight, Austin said during a meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee, Bloomberg reports.
Austin also repeated the US administration’s request to Congress to approve additional military aid to Ukraine. He noted that such assistance also provides jobs for American workers due to increased US defense production.
Austin’s remark regarding attacks on Russian refineries was condemned by Republican Senator Tom Cotton, who accused the administration of preventing effective action by Ukraine for political reasons.
Let us recall that earlier Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries were criticized by the UN.
After attacks on targets in Tatarstan, the UN called for an end to attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure. This was stated by the spokesperson of the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric.
In Russian Tatarstan, a factory where Russians assemble Iranian “shaheeds”, labeling them as “Geranium-2”, came under drone attack.
