In Orsk, Russia’s Orenburg region, another river, the Elshanka, overflows its banks. The mayor of Orsk, Vasily Kozupitsa, announced this on the morning of Monday, April 8.
The city’s mayor called on residents to pack their belongings, documents and evacuate to a safe place.
Meanwhile, the Ural River continues to flood Orsk. The head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov, who flew to Orsk, assessed the situation there as “critical.”
Hospitals in Orsk were flooded. Some patients were evacuated; those who can be discharged.
In the city, 10,168 residential buildings and more than 18,000 households were flooded, 6,120 people were evacuated, and 45 horticulture societies lost power. The water level in the Urals near Orsk is falling.

In Orenburg, the water rose by 16 cm per day, in Ileka – +24 cm, in Buzuluk, the level of the Samara River rose by 40 cm. The total level in the reservoirs of the Orenburg region increased from 8 to 30 cm per day, but in some settlements there was a decrease in the water level – from 3 cm in Buguruslan to 19 cm in Novosergeevka, and in Krasnogorm the level of the Chernaya River fell by 219 cm.
The mayor of Orenburg, Sergei Salmin, said that an unprecedented flood is approaching the city, and the Kurgan region is also preparing for the disaster – a state of emergency has already been introduced in three districts.
In general, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, more than 10.4 thousand residential buildings remain flooded in 39 regions of the country.
We remind you that on April 5, a protective embankment built in 2010 in Orsk was damaged.
In the Orenburg region, a regional-level emergency regime is in effect due to the worsening flood situation.
