According to the latest data, for the party leader Voice 53.12% of voters voted for his competitor, representative of the liberal opposition Ivan Korchok – 46.87%.
The voter turnout was 61.1%.
Pellegrini, a coalition partner of anti-Ukrainian Prime Minister Robert Fico, will replace liberal President Zuzana Caputova.
Following his victory, Fico and his allies will consolidate power and control Slovakia’s parliament, government and presidency.
We remind you that on April 6, the second round of presidential elections took place in Slovakia, because in the first round two weeks ago, none of the nine candidates got more than 50% of the votes.
The leaders in the first round were Korchok with 42.5% and Pellegrini with 37% of the votes.
The position of President in Slovakia is mainly ceremonial. However, the head of state also has the right of veto and can use it in relation to laws adopted by the parliament, ratifies international agreements, is the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, and appoints senior judges.
