Some of the North Atlantic Alliance’s initiatives may “cross red lines,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister said.
Hungary fears a possible escalation in Russia. Some NATO initiatives may cross red lines. This is what Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó said, Sky News reports.
“We must do everything possible to avoid a direct conflict between NATO and Russia in the future,” he said.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister added that there are already “intentions aimed at the opposite.” According to Szijjártó, some of the proposals will “definitely cross some lines that until now have been considered red.”
At the same time, the Hungarian minister did not reveal what initiatives he was talking about.
Szijjártó said his country was against any NATO proposal that “would lead to an escalation of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.”
Let’s recall that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States plans to discuss the development of a “road map” for Ukraine’s accession to NATO at the Alliance summit, scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed creating a five-year fund for Ukraine in the amount of $100 billion to entice the Alliance to provide arms to Kyiv.
The Kremlin said relations between Russia and NATO had sunk to the level of “direct confrontation.”
