Russia has already used wait-and-attack tactics when, after illegally annexing Crimea and annexing part of the Donbass, it spent eight years amassing forces for a new invasion.
After the war, Article 5 of the NATO Charter would be able to protect Ukraine from repeated Russian aggression. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced this on Wednesday, April 3, at a press conference in Brussels, where a meeting of NATO foreign ministers is taking place, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
“There is a clear commitment for Ukraine to become a member of NATO. Once this war is over, there must be some guarantee that it will not happen again, that there will be no pause where Russia can recover, rest, and then regroup. and attack again.” – said Stoltenberg.
He noted that Russia has already used wait and attack tactics.
“In 2014, Russia, shortly after the illegal annexation of Crimea, invaded Donbass. Then they stopped for eight years and made a full-scale invasion against Ukraine. They waited for almost eight years and continued with a full-scale aggression. So, of course, when this war is over, we must be absolutely sure that this is really the end, that it will stop here. Therefore, we must help Ukraine build its own defense. And the Article 5 will be a guarantee of security,” said Stoltenberg.
It should be noted that Article 5 of the NATO Charter regulates the activities of the North Atlantic Alliance to ensure collective defense. It states that an attack on one NATO member will be considered an attack on all of them.
Yesterday, the media reported that Jens Stoltenberg proposed the creation of a five-year fund for Ukraine in the amount of $100 billion to attract NATO to provide weapons to our country.
