The July NATO summit focused on the road map for Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.

The United States plans to discuss the development of a “road map” for Ukraine’s accession to NATO at the Alliance summit, scheduled for July 9-11 in Washington. This is what US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a briefing with French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne on Tuesday, April 2.

The head of the US State Department discussed with his French counterpart the NATO summit and Ukraine’s membership issues. This topic will be discussed in more detail at a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

Blinken recalled that during last year’s NATO summit in Vilnius, the allies assured that Ukraine would join the Alliance.

“The problem is to have a good and clear roadmap to get there. And I believe that the NATO summit dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Alliance (in Washington – edit.) will really focus on how we can build this road map,” the Secretary of State said.

Blinken added that such a “road map” would be a “necessary bridge” that would allow Ukraine to become a member of NATO.

We remind you that the previous day, President Vladimir Zelensky held a special meeting on cooperation with NATO. This concerns the summit in Washington and many other aspects of the engagement.

US Deputy Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander said the NATO summit in Washington will pave the way for Ukraine’s future membership in the Alliance.
