The evacuation of civilian residents of border villages in the Sumy region began in the summer of 2023.
In the Sumy region, civilians were completely evacuated from 27 villages in the border zone with Russia. This was announced by OVA head Vladimir Artyukh in a telethon on Tuesday, April 2.
“27 settlements have been taken under the control of the Armed Forces, and there is almost no population there,” he said.
The official noted that the evacuation of civilian residents of villages in the border region of the Sumy region began in the summer of 2023.
“We have managed to evacuate around 9,000 people from the border area, of which 850 are children. The children can continue studying in safe places,” he stressed.
In total, there are 115 settlements on the border of the Sumy region. Evacuation work continues.
As reported, people are leaving the borders of the Sumy region en masse due to Russia’s shelling. If before the full invasion of the Russian Federation, 10 thousand people lived in the settlement of Velikopisarevskaya of the Sumy region, today almost half of the residents remain. And only 25 people live in the 5-kilometer zone.
