The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office exposed an organized group at UZ that stole UAH 94.7 million from the purchase of transformers at inflated prices. From June to December 2022, the group leader, through controlled officials of Ukrzaliznytsia, ensured the election of a predetermined company as a supplier of power transformers at an inflated cost. This was reported to NABU.
This attacker prepared and sent a letter to Ukrzaliznytsia, which became the basis for rejecting offers from other procurement participants with more favorable price conditions. And the company that won the tender is controlled by a Belarusian with connections in Russia.
This company, due to a controlled installation company registered in Bulgaria, purchased transformers from a manufacturer in Uzbekistan. Subsequently, the equipment was “resold to Ukrzaliznytsia” for an amount artificially doubled.
As a result of the implementation of the scheme during 2022-2024, Ukrzaliznytsia suffered losses in the amount of UAH 94.7 million, which the participants in the crime took possession of and disposed of at their own discretion, NABU noted.
The court has already seized UAH 53 million in the bank accounts of the supplier company. The leader, co-organizer and two members of the organized group were detained.
The names of the defendants are not disclosed. However, the Economic Truth publication writes that the leader of the group was former adviser to the Presidential Office Artem Shilo.
Let us remind you that in February NABU, SAPO and SBU reported suspicion to former Verkhovna Rada deputy Sergei Pashinsky, who is one of six suspects in the case of the theft of more than 97 thousand tons of seized oil products for a total of 967 million UAH.
