This was reported by the Russian state agency TASS with reference to the regional Minister of Agriculture Evgeny Leshchenko.
It is noted that the production capacity is 60 thousand tons per year.
Five more lines are planned to open later.
Enterprises in our region supply special potatoes of those varieties that are acceptable for the production of chips,” Leshchenko said.
It is noted that construction of the plant began in the fall of 2020 and the first stages were planned to be launched in 2021. Investments in the project were previously estimated at more than 12 billion rubles. In June 2023, local officials reported the completion of the plant.
According to Leshchenko, initially the project was also focused on supplies abroad, but it is not yet clear when the enterprise will reach its designed capacity, since “difficulties arose with the supply of technological equipment.”
It’s all imported and is subject to sanctions restrictions,” he noted.
In March 2022, PepsiCo management announced the cessation of beverage sales, investments and advertising activities in Russia. However, the production of drinks subsequently resumed under new names. At the same time, the company remains one of the main producers of dairy products in Russia – it owns the Wimm-Bill-Dan brand.
In September 2023, NAPC added PepsiCo to the list of international war sponsors. According to the national agency’s calculations, in the first year of a full-scale war, PepsiCo increased its revenues in Russia to $2.59 billion, and taxes of more than $115 million were paid to the Russian budget.
