The budget of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in 2024 is higher than the initial budget of the Ministry in 2023.
More than 70% of the budget of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine for 2024 will go to military allowances, payment to the dead, payment for injuries, and another 20% to the purchase of weapons. Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Defense Yuriy Dzhigir spoke about this on Sunday, March 31, in an interview with ArmyInform.
He clarified that in 2024, an allocation of UAH 862.6 billion was allocated for payments.
“This block includes monetary allowances for the military, payment to the dead, payment for injuries, for staying in the first and second lines of battle, food for personnel, clothing, and rewards for destroyed equipment,” explained the deputy minister.
He emphasized that the amount is not uniform, but meets the situation and needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“If the intensity of the conflict increases, the number of troops increases, there is a need to attract additional funds, and this, accordingly, requires changes in the budget and appropriate government decisions,” said Jigir .
The deputy minister added that the department plans to spend 20% of the defense budget on the purchase of weapons and military equipment from the budget.
“Because of the war in Ukraine, some of our neighbors, which also border the aggressor country, have been spending a larger share on weapons and military equipment in recent years,” the official said.
According to Dzhigir, 265.4 billion hryvnias have been allocated to meet the military’s needs for high-quality equipment and weapons.
In the last quarter of this year alone, the internal audit of the Ministry of Defense identified financial irregularities and risks of loss of assets worth more than 10 billion hryvnias. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Defense Yuri Dzhigir.
