In the new aid package, Paris plans to transfer hundreds of units of old but effective VAB armored vehicles to Kyiv, which will provide mobility to Ukrainian troops to hold a huge front line. Also, Ukrainian air defense stocks will be replenished with missiles for the SAMP/T air defense systems. French Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu stated this in an interview with La Tribune.
This is old equipment that is still functional and would be directly useful to Ukraine if donated in large quantities. We can talk about hundreds for 2024 and early 2025,” he described these armored vehicles.
40-year-old VAB armored personnel carriers are being withdrawn from service in the French army. They are being replaced by the new generation Griffon armored vehicles.
The French also responded to Bankova’s calls to strengthen air defense, so they will receive Aster 30 missiles for SAMP/T anti-aircraft missile systems.
Lecornu added that France is also rapidly developing remote-controlled munitions. They want to transfer them to the Ukrainian Armed Forces this summer.
Let us remind you that on March 28, Germany announced the transfer of a large package of military assistance to Ukraine. In particular, it included WISENT 1 mine clearance vehicles, Vector and RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance vehicles, ammunition for Leopard 2A6 tanks, 18 thousand 155 mm ammunition, 2 thousand 56 RGW90 Matador grenade launchers and 70 grenade launchers.
