France will provide military aid to Ukraine in the form of armored vehicles, Aster missiles and remote-controlled munitions. French Armed Forces Minister Sebastien Lecornu said this in an interview with La Tribune, published on Sunday, March 31.
“To maintain the massive front line, the Ukrainian army needs our armored personnel carriers: they are absolutely necessary for the mobility of troops… We can talk about hundreds of units in 2024 and early 2025,” the minister said.
It is indicated that the VAB armored personnel carrier is more than 40 years old, but serviceable. In the French army they are now being replaced by the new generation Griffon armored vehicle.
Lecarniu added that the aid package also includes Aster 30 missiles for the SAMP/T Mamba air defense systems.
“We are also developing remote-controlled munitions in a very short time, which will be delivered to the Ukrainians this summer,” the minister assured.
Earlier, Lecornu said that France decided to transfer decommissioned military equipment to Ukraine instead of just throwing it away.
Also, the French minister did not exclude the request for industrial capacities to speed up the production of weapons, including for the needs of Ukraine.
