The Russians doubled the warhead of the ammunition – instead of the standard 450 kg, the aggressor began producing new missiles equipped with an increased warhead weighing approximately 800 kg. Not only was the weight of one warhead increased, but two separate warheads were placed. This became known after an analysis of the downed X-101 missile during the last enemy attack on the night of March 29. This was reported by the Telegram channel “Colonel General Staff”.
The second warhead has prepared destruction elements in the form of cubic steel fragments to increase combat effectiveness.
According to Defense Express, modernization of the missile will reduce the flight range of the X-101 from 5 thousand 500 km to a conditional 2 thousand 250 km. However, this will not particularly affect anything, because if such missiles are launched from the Saratov region, even at targets in the Lvov region, such an X-101 will still have 500-700 km left for additional maneuvers.
Information on the option of equipping the Kh-101 with two warheads can be traced in Russian sources since the mid-2010s, even at the stage of development and testing of this missile. The innovation was also reported by Russian media in January of this year.
Let us recall that in February it became known that the Russians began to fire at Ukraine with the latest X-69 cruise missiles. This missile carries a warhead weighing 310 kg with a total missile mass of 710 kg. Its maximum destruction range is 290 km, and its flight speed is about 700-1 thousand km/h.
