“Le Pen will stand trial for embezzlement of public funds and conspiracy,” the publication wrote.
It is indicated that Marine Le Pen and 26 other people are suspected of having created, between 2004 and 2016, a European Union salary system for assistants of members of the European Parliament. Colleagues suspect Le Pen of fraud.
“Le Pen is suspected of creating a system of rewards in the amount of 21 thousand euros for his assistants, allocated monthly from EU funds to each MP to pay parliamentary assistants. It is estimated that Le Pen sent Pen 6.8 million euros to his colleagues in the period from 2009 to 2017,” the newspaper notes.
Other accused include Perpignan Mayor Louis Alio, former party No. 2 Bruno Gollnisch, party executive vice-president Nicolas Bay, former National Rally treasurer Walerand de Saint-Just, and party speaker Julien Audul.
