One of the fragments of the missile hit on March 25 clearly shows that it was shot by the Patriot system.
The Russian hypersonic Zircon missile, with which the enemy attacked Kyiv twice, does not fulfill the specific combat mission and “flies in the wrong place.” On Wednesday, March 27, the head of the military research laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KNIISE) Andrey Kulchytsky said this in a comment to Suspilny on the results of the analysis of the destruction of Zircon.
“This missile does not fulfill its combat mission. Everything loaded, all the characteristics of “super”, “hyper” – these are all words, but in fact, the missile has a long way before it can be used in combat. It’s flying in the wrong place, doing the wrong job, where it’s adapted,” he said.
Kulchitsky assured that the Ukrainian air defense was capable of shooting down the Zircons. According to him, one of the fragments of the missile that hit on March 25 clearly shows that it was shot by the Patriot system.
He also said that the Zircon warhead contained no more than 40 kilograms of explosives.
“We are still conducting tests, we will determine what kind of substance is there. But the warhead is small: compared to the warhead of missiles like X-101 and X-22,” he added.
We remind you that on March 25, the Russians launched a missile attack on Kyiv from Crimea. The Air Force said two missiles were shot down. Their type is defined. But journalist Andrei Tsaplienko said that the enemy used Zircon missiles.
As a result of the Russian attack, 10 people were injured. Buildings were destroyed in the Pechersk district of the capital.
As you know, on February 7, the Russians hit Kyiv with Zircon for the first time.
The Zircon is a Russian anti-ship cruise missile. The Russians claim that the Zircon is hypersonic and capable of reaching speeds in excess of Mach 8 (about 10 thousand kilometers per hour) and avoiding any existing air and missile defense systems. In addition to ships, the missile is capable of hitting land targets.
