NATO can protect Ukraine from missiles: what is known

The Alliance is considering the possibility of shooting Russian missiles, especially in the western regions of Ukraine.

Poland’s deputy foreign minister said NATO is considering shooting down Russian missiles that are too close to its borders. That is, we can talk about the removal of Russian missiles of the Alliance on the territory of the western regions of Ukraine. Whether the union members decide to make such a decision is beyond the story.

Latest missile situation

On the night of March 24, the Russian Kh-101 cruise missile again flew into Polish airspace. The country’s armed forces had to compete with fighter jets.

The Chairman of the Polish Army General Staff, General Wieslaw Kukula, said the missile incident was “above all a deliberate act” and explained why the decision to shoot was not made.

“Such targets on the border of the two countries are difficult in terms of the dilemma – to shoot or not. Because the consequences of destruction on our side can have unintended effects on the other side. And the same can happen when Ukraine shot down such a missile. Such a missile could fall on the territory of Poland and cause some consequences. Therefore, we, first of all, here today, we approach it in such a way that we believe that it is more than everything was a deliberate gesture,” said the Polish general. .

In response to this incident, Warsaw called the Russian ambassador on the carpet, who never showed up at a meeting with the Foreign Ministry, where he was supposed to be presented with a note of protest.

Kyiv permit

Today, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna said that due to the situation at the weekend, NATO began to consider the option of shooting down Russian missiles when they fly towards the territory of the North Atlantic Alliance.

To make such a decision, among other things, permission from Kyiv will be needed, Sheina added.

“NATO is evaluating various concepts, including that such missiles will be shot down when they are very close to the NATO border. But this should happen with the consent of the Ukrainian side and taking into account the international consequences – then NATO missiles will hit the Russian missiles outside the territory of the Alliance “, – he said.

According to him, the aggressor cannot impose certain rules on us every time; on the contrary, he must get used to the fact that the side of NATO, the side of democratic countries, the EU will begin to set a certain tone when it comes to resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

“We take Putin’s threats very seriously. He has shown that he can do anything… We have another NATO summit in July. There is a reunification of EU countries, a reactivation of the Weimar Triangle,” said by Sheina.

Support for Lithuania

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis supported Poland and called for the shooting of Russian missiles at NATO countries. According to him, violations of the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance can no longer be allowed.

“Once there may be a mistake. But if we allow it to happen again, it will be seen as encouragement. So we have to change our attitude and send a very clear message that if it happens again, the missiles or drones will be shot down” said the minister.

He stressed that the violation of Polish airspace by Russian missiles “is not the first time.”

“There have already been several cases of violation of Romanian airspace, and this is not the first case of violation of Polish airspace either,” he recalled.
