General Director of Ukrhydroenergo Igor Sirota stated this on the air of Public.
At the same time, he assured that the dam is not damaged and there is no threat of a breakthrough. Currently, work is underway to dismantle the broken remains of the ceiling and walls of the turbine room.
I think that within a week we will be able to sort out all this rubble, and then we will be able to talk in more detail about the consequences. But there are a lot of hits in the units themselves, the equipment burned out, that is, there is a lot of work. Today it is still impossible to estimate in time and financially. There are units that need to be produced completely from scratch, and this takes from 18 to 24 months,” explained Sirota.
In addition to restoring the units, reconstruction of the machine room will also be required.
“We’ll see what’s happening on the four floors at the bottom of the station, where the depth is 25-30 meters, but this will be after the rubble has been cleared,” Sirota added.
He clarified that there is damage to the upper part of the building itself. But the station itself is 35 meters deep down, where there are different floors.
We need to analyze this part. The upper part of the building will have to be completely restored. As for the equipment, we cannot get to the lower levels of the station because the upper level is completely blocked. As soon as we dismantle all this, then we will be able to understand what needs to be restored and what to order and produce,” Sirota said.
He emphasized that the consequences of any accident are subject to restoration; the only question is the time and cost of restoration. Sirota added that more than 8 missiles flew at the DneproGES facilities, the first missile strikes were carried out at 4 am, the fire lasted more than 7 hours.
The floor of the turbine hall was excited, the roof and walls were demolished, many missiles flew into the turbine hall. Therefore, get to this equipment and analyze the construction part. It will take some time, at least two to three days, before we can do preliminary visual examinations and analysis. And only after this we will be able to assess the consequences of this missile aggression,” noted the general director of Ukrhydroenergo.
