British Finance Minister Jeremy Hunt called the terrorist attack in Moscow “horrific” but warned against unconditionally believing Russia’s claims about the shooting, Sky News reports.
A member of the British government noted that civilian deaths are appalling, “even when they happen in countries whose governments we strongly disagree with.”
“We can only hope that the culprits will be caught,” he added.
However, the minister rejected Russian claims about Ukraine’s alleged involvement in the terrorist attack. “We have very little faith in what the Russian government is saying,” he said.
The minister said that Russia is “creating a smoke screen of propaganda.” According to Hunt, he takes everything the Russians say with “a very large pinch of salt” (the minister used the phrase with a very large pinch of salt, which is used in English when they say that something should not be taken for granted unconditional).
