US senators have voted for a bill to fund the government at $1.2 trillion.
The US Senate has approved a $1.2 trillion government funding bill and now White House leader Joe Biden must sign it. This was reported by The Associated Press on Saturday, March 23.
The document was supported by 74 senators, 24 against it. It has now been sent to Biden for consideration. The latter should sign the bill as soon as possible.
The Senate approved the budget hours after the actual money to run the government ran out. The bill would help the United States avoid a shutdown.
Within the approved budget, defense allocations will increase by 3%, while total domestic spending will remain at the same level. The spending package covers three-quarters of the funding for federal agencies for the next six months through September 30, 2024.
As we have already written, congresswoman Margery Taylor Greene, who belongs to the far right wing of the Republican Party, on Friday, March 22, filed a resolution to remove Speaker Mike Johnson.
Let’s remember that former Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy was impeached in early October 2023. The procedure for ousting McCarthy was initiated by his former party colleague, Republican Matt Gaetz. He accused the speaker of “theoretically concluding a secret agreement with President Joseph Biden to support Ukraine.”
