Now it’s time to vote in the hall. This was announced by People’s Deputy of Ukraine Roman Lozinsky.
Chervonograd in the Lviv region will soon become the city of Sheptytsky! This decision was made only by the Committee of State Power, Local Governments, Redevelopment and Urban Planning. The Verkhovna Rada will finally approve the name change by voting, Roman Lozinsky wrote on his Facebook page.
The historical name of Chervonograd from 1692 to 1951 was Kristinopol. The city is named after the wife of its founder Felix-Kazimir Potocki, Christina from the Lubomirsky family. On February 15, 1951, the city of Bulr was transferred to the USSR on the basis of a Soviet-Polish intergovernmental agreement.
Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky is an outstanding Ukrainian figure, philanthropist, representative of the Ukrainian noble Sheptytsky family, head of the UGCC. In 1892, he composed eternal vows at the Christinopolis Monastery (he belonged to the Basilian Fathers), and also taught philosophy here. Now there is a monument to him on the territory of the monastery. In Volsvin he founded the Order of Studites, and also personally financed the construction of the bell tower.
In addition, Lozinsky noted that as part of decolonization, five cities and 104 villages in Ukraine will be renamed. We are talking about the following cities: Chervonograd – Sheptytsky, Yuzhnoye – Port Anental, Pavlograd – Matveev, Sinelnikovo – Rodnopolye, Brovary – Brovary.
