Galushchenko also noted that the gas transportation system of Ukraine has passed the stress test and is ready for life without the transit of Russian gas.
At the same time, the minister did not mention whether it would be possible to continue transporting gas from Russia bypassing contracts with Gazprom, mentioning that EU countries have successful experience in quickly abandoning Russian gas:
There is the EU initiative RepowerEU, which provides that by 2027 European countries will completely get rid of Russian gas, not only pipeline gas, but all gas, including LNG,” he said.
The EU and Ukraine have previously stated that they will not renegotiate the current contract, but some market participants are optimistic about the possibility of bilateral agreements on the delivery of fuel to their countries. Galushchenko denied this option.
I don’t see such a possibility. There are no plausible solutions on the table. We are ready to stop transit. If someone said that this is a critical issue for survival in winter, this is a question of security of supplies, this is one situation, but I don’t see this,” the minister said.
Instead of continuing to buy Russian gas, the head of the Ministry of Energy called on more European countries to store fuel in underground storage facilities in Ukraine.
Ukraine may offer to store 15 billion cubic meters of gas in storage facilities, which exceeds the 14 billion cubic meters of Russian fuel that transited through Ukraine last year.
