Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) note that the provision of Western security assistance is likely to play a critical role in Ukraine’s ability to hold territory now and fend off new Russian offensive efforts in the coming months. The Institute wrote about this in its next report on March 15.
For now, experts say, Russian forces will continue to use the advantage of theater-wide initiative to dynamically rebalance their offensive efforts this spring and summer, likely in hopes of exploiting possible Ukrainian vulnerabilities.
According to analysts at the Institute for the Study of War, the Russian occupiers are bringing in tactical and operational reserves to maintain and increase offensive operations in eastern Ukraine before the Ukrainians receive Western help.
Ukrainian military observers note that many of these reserves are intended to exploit a perceived Russian breakthrough of Ukrainian defenses, and not necessarily to support ongoing Russian offensive operations aimed at stabilizing Ukraine’s defense positions.
But Russian forces still have adequate reserves to further intensify offensive operations, but these reserves are likely to be insufficient to allow the occupiers to destroy Ukrainian defenses.
