The French president, explaining his violation of the idea of sending troops into Ukraine, emphasized that in the current conditions it is necessary to prevent Russia from winning the war “going on European soil.”
What’s happening in Ukraine? A war that is existential for our Europe and for France. We have set too many restrictions, so to speak, in our vocabulary. We are not going to escalate. We are not in a state of war with Russia,” he emphasized in a conversation with TF1 and France 2.
According to Macron, if France is forced to send troops to Ukraine, then “the only one who will bear responsibility is the Kremlin regime.”
It won’t be us. We will never go on the offensive, we will never seize the initiative, he assured.
Macron assured that he does not seek to escalate a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, but considers the Russian Federation and the Kremlin regime “opponents” of France.
Today Russia is certainly an adversary. The Kremlin regime is an enemy. As I have always said, we are not waging a war against Russia and the Russian people, and we support Ukraine,” the French President noted.
“We are doing everything we can to help Ukraine defeat Russia, because I will say very simply: there can be no lasting peace if there is no sovereignty, if there is no return to the internationally recognized borders of Ukraine, including Crimea,” he added.
Macron again made statements about the possibility of sending French troops to Ukraine.
But some new theses have been added.
I did everything to achieve peace. All. Minsk negotiations, agreements, negotiations…
Today we are not in a situation where we need to send troops, and we do not exclude this scenario.
There will be no security for the French if there is no peace there, and peace does not mean the capitulation of Ukraine.
If Russia continues to escalate, we must be prepared. We must make decisions that will not allow Russia to win.
Ukraine must win, and Russia must bear responsibility.
At the same time, Le Monde claims that Macron said at a closed event on February 21 that he wants to send French troops to Odessa this year.
