Ukrainian enterprises increased the pace of work in the 2023/2024 heating season by 23% compared to the last heating season.
A large-scale reform campaign in the energy sector made it possible to increase the pace of domestic industry. In particular, Ukrainian businesses have increased electricity consumption by 23% in the current heating season. The Ministry of Energy of Ukraine reported this on Wednesday, February 13.
They noted that in November – February 2023/2024, despite the challenges of the military, the amount of electricity consumption by the industry reached about 9.38 billion kWh. This is more than 23% more than what was consumed in the same period last year (7.61 billion kWh). In particular, in November 2023 the growth was 25.75% (compared to the same period last year), in December – 37.56%, in January 2024 – 27.58%, in February – 6.17%.
“The development of the industry and, accordingly, the economy is impossible without stable operation of the energy system. This is ensured mainly thanks to the large-scale adjustment in the energy sector, which will continue in the future, and our military, which protects the infrastructure from enemy attacks. We are working to ensure that, despite the war, our consumers and continue to have a reliable and uninterrupted supply of electricity, “said the head of Ministry of Energy German Galushchenko.
Also, the amount of electricity consumption by household consumers increased by almost 12% (12.64 billion kWh compared to 11.3 billion kWh). In total, in November – February 2023/2024, domestic energy generating enterprises produced more than 41.53 billion kWh of electricity, which is 16% higher than the production volume during the heating season of 2022/2023.
The department noted that more than half of this electricity was produced by Ukrainian nuclear power plants – 22.17 billion kWh, which is 22% more than nuclear power plants produced in the same period last year. In addition, hydro generation improved its production indicators, producing 4.16 billion kWh, which is 7.5% more than in the same period in 2022/2023, thermal generation (producing 13 billion kWh, which is almost 10% more more, than last winter. period) and generation from renewable energy sources (2.03 billion kWh, which is 25% more than during the 2022/2023 heating season).
