The Vatican explained the Pope’s words by saying that he called for a ceasefire and the continuation of negotiations, and not for the surrender of Ukraine.

The head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Svyatoslav, in New York, after the words of Pope Francis about the “white flag”, said that in Ukraine it does not happen to anyone to surrender.

“I want to tell you something from the people of Ukraine. Ukraine is wounded, but not conquered! Ukraine is consumed, but it stands and will remain! Believe me, this never happens to anyone who surrender. No matter where the battle is going on now ; listen to our people in Kherson, Zaporozhye, Odessa, Kharkov, Sumy… Come to Ukraine and see! Who among you does not believe in the victory of Ukraine – go to Confession ! This means that we have no faith in life. God is present in the body of Ukrainians,” said Svyatoslav.

Let’s remember that Pope Francis said that Ukraine “must have the courage to raise the white flag” and start negotiations with Russia.

Speaking about the white flag, the Pope does not mean surrender, but a return to negotiations, the press service of the Holy See said.
