As part of the proceedings, not only the direct perpetrators of these crimes were identified, but also those who could give orders for the execution of prisoners of war or did not respond to such actions.
As of March 2024, Ukrainian law enforcement officials have documented and are investigating 45 cases of killing prisoners of war during 19 criminal trials. However, this figure is not final. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Prosecutor General’s Office, Nadezhda Maksimets, reports Ukrainian Pravda.
“The facts of the killing of prisoners of war by the aggressor troops were recorded at the beginning of the large-scale invasion. However, the number of such cases has especially increased since November last year,” he said.
According to Maksimets, within the framework of the proceedings, not only the direct perpetrators of these crimes were identified, but also those who could give orders for the execution of prisoners of war or did not respond to the such actions of their constituents.
The killing of prisoners of war is a grave violation of the Geneva Convention relating to the Treatment of Prisoners of War and a serious international crime,” the spokesperson of the Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized.
We remind you that law enforcement officers have collected evidence against another Russian occupier who shot prisoners of war in Ukraine. The attacker turned out to be the repeatedly convicted Dmitry Kurashov, a sniper of the Storm-V assault detachment of the 127th motorized rifle division of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation.
It was also reported that Russian occupiers shot a group of Ukrainian prisoners of war on Saturday, February 24, in Bakhmut district.
