Oslo will allocate $153 million. on the initiative of the Czech side to purchase ammunition for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in third countries. The corresponding statement was made by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on March 7, the press service of the Norwegian government reports.
Norway supports Ukraine with artillery ammunition, both from its own reserves and directly from industry. “Today we have decided to contribute up to NOK 1.6 billion to an initiative organized by the Czech Republic in order to provide Ukraine with much-needed artillery ammunition as quickly as possible,” he noted.
Let us recall that in February, Czech President Petr Pavel, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, said that the Czech Republic had discovered 800 thousand shells for Ukraine from potential suppliers outside the European Union. This was a backup plan because the bloc had not fulfilled its promise to deliver a million shells to Ukrainian defenders by March. However, funding is needed to bring it to life.
The Netherlands was the first to respond to this proposal, promising to allocate 100 million euros for the purchase of ammunition. Belgium will also allocate 200 million euros for this. France and Lithuania also joined the Czech initiative.
