An investigation into suspected arson is underway, local police said.
As the ARD Tagesschau TV program notes, Tesla does not expect to be able to quickly resume work.
According to the Brandenburg Ministry of Internal Affairs, unknown persons set fire to a separate power line support. This led to a power outage in communities in the Oder-Spree district of Brandenburg and at the nearby electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs announced an “insidious attack” on infrastructure. The state’s interior minister, Michael Stübgen, said “thousands of people were at risk.”
The event may be related to protests by environmental activists: last week they set up a camp in the forest next to the plant and, under the slogan “Stop Tesla,” are protesting against the expansion of production and deforestation because of it.
Shortly after the fire, the localThe police received a confession letter. The so-called Vulcan group took responsibility for the arson. which is classified as left-wing extremist. Law enforcement officers are verifying the authenticity of the information.
The band members in particular accused Tesla of “extreme operating conditions” and called for a “total closure of the gigafactory.”
The group was already suspected of setting fire to a power line at a Tesla construction site in 2021. Then activists accused Tesla of being neither “green,” nor environmentally friendly, nor social.
