This could delay the production of artillery shells for Ukraine. The publication quotes Jean-Paul Molny from the Institute of International and Strategic Relations (IRIS). He says there are very few gunpowder manufacturers in Europe.
Molny notes that many governments are now working to move production from abroad.
EU Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton considers the main problem to be the lack of raw materials for the production of gunpowder in the EU.
This requires a certain type of cotton, which is mainly sourced from China. The supply of this cotton from China was accidentally stopped several months ago.
