In the D.C. metropolitan area, nearly 63% of Republicans voted for Haley, while only 33% voted for Trump, the Associated Press reported.
As a result, Haley will receive the votes of all 19 D.C. voters, giving her a total of 43 voters. Trump, who has 247 popular votes, issued a statement shortly after Haley’s victory sarcastically congratulating him as the “swamp queen.”
It is noted that Haley became the first woman to win the Republican primary in history.
Haley said that despite previous losses in the primaries, she has no plans to leave the race because she believes that “voters in other states deserve an alternative to Trump.”
In total, during the primaries, Republicans select 2,429 delegates to the party convention, which will officially announce the presidential candidate on July 15.
