This was reported on the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) page on the X social network.
The joint operation, which took place between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm Gaza time, involved US and Jordanian Air Force C-130 aircraft and their respective airlift soldiers, forming packages and ensuring the safe release of food aid.
It is noted that American C-130 aircraft dropped more than 38 thousand food rations for civilians along the Gaza coast.
DoD Humanitarian Airdrops support ongoing U.S. Government efforts to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. We are planning for potential next airborne aid missions,” the statement said. “These airdrops are part of an ongoing effort to bring more aid into Gaza, including by expanding the flow of aid through land corridors and routes. .
The Associated Press, citing unnamed US officials, reported that the operation involved three US Air Force C-130 aircraft dropping a total of 66 bags of food on a beach along the Mediterranean coast in southwest Gaza.
It is the first such operation carried out since US President Joe Biden authorized it in this way after more than 100 Palestinians died in a chaotic clash with Israeli forces on February 29 while trying to obtain food from a Gaza aid convoy.
On the morning of February 29, from behind an Israeli checkpoint, a humanitarian convoy entered Gaza, which had received almost no aid for several weeks, its vehicles stretching for several hundred meters. Crowds of people immediately rushed towards her, trying to grab everything they could reach.
Both sides then voiced their versions of the reasons for the tragedy:
- Gaza’s Hamas-controlled health ministry said Israeli troops fired into a crowd of Palestinians, killing 112 Palestinians and injuring 760 others;
- At the same time, the Israeli military claims that it only opened fire on some Palestinians, suggesting that a dangerous situation was developing, but many of the dead were trampled in the chaotic stampede.
