European sanctions were able to freeze the assets of Russian oligarchs for a tidy sum.
In EU countries, as a result of sanctions, oligarchs and institutions have been blocked from access to luxury yachts, helicopters, paintings, real estate and other assets worth more than 12.5 billion euros. This was stated by the official representative of the European Commission for Justice, Christian Wiegand, to Die Welt.
The amount of frozen assets of Russian oligarchs has almost doubled from 6.7 billion euros in April to more than 12.5 billion euros, the official said.
It is noted that the amount of blocked assets increased due to the fact that a significant part of the funds was frozen in Germany. German finance minister Christina Lindner said earlier that about 4.5 billion euros worth of Russian assets were frozen in the country. These are central bank deposits, company investments, as well as ships and yachts.
It should be reminded that in June the Council of the European Union approved the sixth package of economic and personal sanctions against Russia and Belarus. The EU has banned the purchase, import or transportation of crude oil and certain petroleum products from Russia to the European Union. And they decided to block SWIFT for Sberbank, the Credit Bank of Moscow, the Russian Agricultural Bank and the Belarusian Bank for Development and Reconstruction.
