The Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO assured that Athens is considering the possibility of “increasing its contributions” on the issue of aid to Kyiv.
Greece plans to transfer new security aid to Ukraine: air defense equipment and anti-aircraft weapons. We are talking about equipment that is no longer used by the armed forces of this country. This was said by the special representative to Ukraine, the permanent representative of Greece to NATO Spyros Lambridis in an interview Voice of America.
“This is confidential information, but there are no secrets between friends – we give Ukraine everything we can, and everything we are asked to give at the level we can,” the official assured.
He said that Athens started providing aid to Kyiv before they had agreements on F-35 fighter jets from the United States. According to him, Greece understands that Ukraine is defending its independence and sovereignty.
“We thought we had to give everything we could, of course, without compromising our own national defense. That’s what we’re doing. We’re considering the possibility of increasing our contributions in this area,” concluded Lambridis .
Let’s remember that at the end of January the media said that Greece would transfer Soviet weapons to Ukraine as part of an agreement with the United States. In particular, we are talking about air defense systems Thor, WaspS-300, as well as the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun and ammunition for all listed positions.
However, later the spokesman of the Greek government, Pavlos Marinakis, denied this information and said that Greece is not planning to provide anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine.
